When I first contacted Montefiore my only interest was to treat my daughter and start braces for her. We met with Dr. Shiloah and he provided the confidence to not only start her treatment but also start my Invisalign to correct a prior treatment from a private institution. Before Dr. Shiloah, I was extremely insecure with my smile. I hid from pictures and covered my mouth when I had the chance, shying away from smiling too much. It was then that I was assigned to him, which turned out to be the best decision ever. From the first session, I remember feeling somewhat nervous, but Dr. Shiloah made sure I was comfortable and explained what to expect in the sessions to come. This clarity gave me peace of mind and helped me understand what the Invisalign procedures would entail. If I had a question throughout the week, even the simplest one, I could reach out to Dr. Shiloah with ease. In every part of the process, he was inviting and considerate whenever I had a concern or needed to reschedule appointments. I had the honor of joining a Bronx County school for career day — talking to kids about dentistry, orthodontics, and what it looks like to build a career in medicine. We laughed, we tried on the white coat, and we talked about why straight teeth and big dreams have a lot more in common than people think.
The best part? One of my own patients now wants to become an orthodontist herself. That, more than anything, is the reason I do this work.

Some appointments stay with you. Caring for a baby with cleft lip and palate — and the parents who love them fiercely — is a reminder that orthodontics is medicine, and that medicine is, at its heart, about people.
